Couldn't make it to Senior Info Night (October 27, 2022)? We missed you, but we get it! Whether the stars aligned for you to come or not, key resources are available on-demand at our Senior Info page. This includes the full presentation recording (also embedded in this post below), downloadable PDF of the slides, copies of the handouts, and additional related resources. The counselors have set up this year's senior Google Classroom and distributed invitations. All seniors are encouraged to join, as that is our primary way of announcing scholarship information, college/career reps visiting NMHS, helpful resources for senior year, etc.
If your senior has not already joined the Class of 2023 Classroom, have them check their email notifications from Classroom. Invitations likely show as having come from Kevin Young, and they were sent October 6 or 7. If you're not seeing it at first, check spam. Still not seeing it? Have your senior reach out to their counselor, and we'll gladly re-send your invitation! We share your excitement that graduation is around the corner!
Information about the graduation ceremony and video pre-orders can be found on our Senior Info page and in students' 12th Grade Advisement Google Classroom. This year's NMHS Local Scholarship Application is released! Seniors can click HERE to access and complete it. Due Friday, February 18, 2022.
This is a great opportunity to apply for multiple scholarships with this one application. This application connects you with multiple scholarship opportunities thanks to several local organizations partnering with us for scholarship candidate information. We highly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. Please read the instructions and fill in all required information. If you have any questions please let your current counselor know and they will help guide you through the process. Check out our College Financial Aid page for more info about accessing $$$ free money $$$ for higher education. It's time for students to give their input on how they want next year's schedule to go!
This week, NMHS school counselors and staff facilitated two advisement periods for students: one to preview their course selection options, and another to actually make their course selections. Visit our Rising 10th-12th Grades Info page for more information! Students have through February 5 to enter their elective selections into Student Portal, as well as submit an add-ons form if interested in either of the add-on options. Required core/required PEs will be reviewed and adjusted on all students' academic plans by school counselors in the coming weeks. Students do not need to worry about these items if they look a little "off" at this time. Dual Enrollment (DE) is an opportunity for Georgia high schoolers to take college classes in high school, earn both high school and college credit from those classes, and pay nothing out of pocket to do so! Are you interested in learning more about this?
If so, we hope to see you at our Dual Enrollment Info Night! It will be at 6-7 PM, Thursday, January 27, 2022, in the NMHS Theatre. Learn the latest DE admissions procedures, understand both the benefits and challenges of DE, how it fits among your high school and college plans, and more! Also, check out our updated Dual Enrollment page! The NMHS DE Contract & Selection Form is available there for new DE students to complete. Also, within a few business days of the DE Info Night, materials that were released at that night will also be posted to our DE page. Check out our newly released Intro to High School video for 8th grade parents (and any students who need the refresher)! 8th graders can still edit their elective selections in Student Portal through December 18. For those interested in taking Honors core high school classes, you must submit an Honors application by December 18. This is a parent follow-up to our recent 8th Grade Expo. Bagley 8th graders visited NMHS on Tuesday, December 14, for a tour and immersive demonstration of all of our Pathway electives. In general, Pathways are sequences of 3 related career, fine arts, or world language classes, and each student must complete at least one Pathway to graduate. NMHS hosts the 8th Grade Expo to help future Mountaineers learn which Pathways might connect with their career/skill goals.
A few days ahead of 8th Grade Expo, NMHS counselors visited Bagley 8th graders to present much of the info you see in this Intro to High School video. At the end of 8th Grade Expo, NMHS counselors and pathway teachers stepped 8th graders through the process of making their elective course selections for 9th grade. Please visit our Freshman Info page for more about freshman course selection and the transition to high school. Many thanks to the senior parents (and their seniors :) who attended the Class of 2022 Senior Info Night! We hope it was helpful in shaping your game plan for finishing high school strong and transitioning smoothly to higher education.
Slideshow, handouts, and other resources from our Senior Info Night can be found on our Senior Info Night page. A video of the presentation will also be posted there as soon as it is available. Hey there, juniors! Remember taking the PSAT about this time last year? Let's talk about how that went! Follow this link for instructions/links for today's classroom activity.
The moment you've been waiting for is here--schedules are released!
NMHS is releasing schedules online. View your schedule on your Infinite Campus Portal account beginning Friday, August 20, 2021. Portal login instructions can be found here. Something wrong with your schedule? Submit an online Schedule Change Request Form, which will be available from August 20th until noon on September 2nd. Schedule change requests will only be accepted through this form. Also, we did our best with "wants" that were expressed during course selection in the winter/early spring. At this time we will primarily address "needs" based schedule change requests. |
